Overcoming Roadblocks to Healing Exhortation
I am excited to finally start this book blog (Overcoming Roadblocks to Healing, my recently published book) to share with people who struggle with healing or say “why didn’t I get healed” or “why is healing so difficult for many in Western Christianity to obtain.” In the coming blogs I want to address these questions and much more. My goal is to write a blog a week on this subject. A lot to cover!
Have you ever noticed how many in Christiandom, in the west think it odd when somebody offers to lay hands on them and pray for healing? Yet this was a regular part of Jesus’ ministry and continued after He ascended throughout the book of Acts with His followers. In Asia and Africa or amongst non-christians in North America there is an openess to being prayed for and many are seeing powerful undeniable miracles, even the dead being raised. Why is Healing such a stumblingblock for many western Christians? Many western Christians would rather suffer with pain or even die than to believe in divine healing. Many Christians in the west have no idea why they believe the way they believe concerning healing and the supernatural. They just continue following religious tradition rather than God’s Word, Jesus Christ. They make all kinds of excuses (what about Job?) or take verses out of context to fit their beliefs because of their religious upbringing or because of what others have taught throughout church history, not even willing to do their own homework on this matter. I will get in depth where these views come from in upcoming blogs and how they contradict the New Testament and even worse Jesus Christ Himself.
In these blogs I will share things from my book OVERCOMING ROADBLOCKS TO HEALING to address many of these issues. I do not claim to have all the answers but I DO CLAIM TO HAVE THE ANSWER. HIS NAME IS JESUS! He is perfect theology. You can not get better theology than Jesus Himself.
NOT HUNGRY ENOUGH
Many see a roadblock to healing and think nothing can be done, when in fact that is not the final answer. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6). This is a principle Jesus established. We will be filled with what we hunger for. One roadblock that I often see when it comes to divine healing is a lack of hunger and thirsting. Many Christians do not like to venture outside the religious box they have put God in or have been raised to believe God is in when it comes to divine healing and miracles. There is no pressing in for it, but an attitude of whatever will be, will be. This attitude does not produce results and is damaging to the Kingdom of God.
In over 34 years of being in a healing ministry, I have watched people, hungry and thirsty to know more about the healing Jesus provided at Calvary and get filled with it: Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed (1 Peter 2:24). They sought it out and found it and now have an unshakable foundation in God’s Word for healings and miracles.
Many believe that if healing does not occur immediately, then maybe it is not God’s will to heal. In reality it is God’s will to heal, but there may be roadblocks or hindrances that stand in the way of a person’s complete healing. On the other hand, the absence of the physical manifestation of healing does not necessarily imply there are hindrances.
Let me explain. 1 Corinthians 12:9-10 talks about the gifts of healings (Greek- “of healing or remedy”) and also the working of miracles (Greek word dunamis– “miraculous ability, power for performing miracles”). Miracles can be instant healings or a supernatural change of event. God heals instantaneously (miracles) and supernaturally over a period of time (healings). Mark 16:18 says, “they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover,” which implies some will be healed and recover over a period of time and some will be immediately healed.”
It is good to understand that some healings occur instantly and some supernaturally over a period of time. Many because of their religious upbringing or beliefs think if it does not happen right away then it is not God’s will or plan for them to be healed. As a result they miss out on their healing or miracle. More to come…
